Demonstrate your proficiency in fire door safety and help protect lives and property by earning the Gold Badge from NFPA®.

Opening protectives such as doors play a vital role in confining fire and smoke in the event of an emergency. It's crucial that building owners and AHJs have a reliable way to assess their abilities or the competency of personnel responsible for ensuring fire doors are ready to perform as intended.

The Swinging Fire Door Inspection Online Training delivers a cost-effective and convenient way to improve your knowledge and validate your capacity to comply with recognized fire and life safety codes and standards. This online program features four learning modules, starting with an introduction to NFPA 80, Standard for Fire Doors and Other Opening Protectives, and moving on to expert instruction in applying inspection, testing, and maintenance requirements.

    Primary course objectives include:

    • Demonstrate a minimum level of knowledge needed to conduct required annual inspections of swinging fire doors with builders hardware.
    • Display both knowledge and application of the 13 points required for annual fire door inspections and testing. An adequate level of competency must be demonstrated using simulations, videos, and images.

    • Comprehend recommended best practices for implementing and managing a fire door inspection program at a facility.
    • Understand the three major roles (building owner, inspector, AHJ) and their responsibilities involving fire door inspections.

Take an end-to-end journey through fire door inspection, testing, and maintenance, and validate your ability.

This unique, interactive training and credentialing program features a video module that puts you on the job with an expert instructor. Receive virtual one-on-one instruction on the 13 different points involved in confirming and documenting the working condition of swinging fire doors with builders hardware assemblies.

The training includes a PDF checklist that provides an easily followed step-by-step approach and can be printed out and taken with you on inspections. An additional included resource provides a list of common deficiencies for each part of the process for your reference.

You have the opportunity to apply what you learned on a virtual door and complete knowledge checks throughout to confirm your understanding. Then pass the multiple-choice assessment to receive a digital badge you can use on your signature line, business card, or resume.
