In the Surveying Existing Water-Based Systems Online Training, you will receive instruction in best practices and procedures for performing assessments of water-based fire suppression system installations. This course is divided into three sections, beginning with a review of the issues and questions to consider when surveying existing buildings, including determining the scope of your survey, fire protection needs and constraints, and data used to inform your determination. Next, you will receive an introduction to Chapter 30, Existing System Modifications, of NFPA 13, Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems, with a brief overview of the requirements you must be familiar with when modifying an existing system. Lastly, you will learn about the impact compliance with the code and other authoritative entities, beyond the local authority having jurisdiction, may have on your project.
Upon completion, you should be able to:
- Describe methods to review an existing water-based system for code compliance
- Explain how fire protection needs and constraints are affected by building or system modifications or process or material changes
- Identify ITM criteria for major water-based system components
