Free Online Learning for Home and Business Owners

If your home or business is in an area at risk of wildfire, there are many steps you can take to protect your property from damage should a wildfire occur. NFPA® has developed this free online course to help you understand what those steps are and how you can reduce your risk.

This course will teach homeowners, business owners, and property managers about the key factors that increase risk to property from wildfire. Supported by a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), it is the only comprehensive teaching tool designed for property owners that provides science-based steps on how to protect property from wildfire.

The course provides key information in an engaging format, using video, animation, scenario-based activities, and interactive knowledge checks. In addition, you will be prompted to develop a personal action planner to guide your own risk reduction efforts. You’ll also get access to a wide range of valuable online resources.

Use the handy free companion mobile app with an augmented reality experience.

After completing the course, download the free NFPA Wildfire Risk Simulator app to evaluate how well your structure is protected. Using augmented reality and 3D technology, the app will allow you to create a virtual structure that mimics key characteristics of your own, then watch as a simulated wildfire occurs and see how well the structure survives. Together, the training and app provide a no-cost, easy-to-use, and engaging learning experience to understand how to reduce the risks of wildfire.

    Key Topics:

    • Factors that determine risk to property from wildfire
    • Proven science-based steps you can take to protect your property
