    This course covers general electrical installation requirements in the NEC to help safeguard against the risks of electrical shock and arc flash hazards and fires.     2023 NFPA 70® National Electrical Code® (NEC®) Conductors and Overcurrent Protection

    Properly sizing conductors and protecting them from overcurrent is a cornerstone of how the NEC shields a building from electrical hazards. If something goes wrong or there is a failure in the electrical system, it is critical to have a device capable of shutting down the system to protect against fire and shock. A fundamental for all electrical professionals, this course covers conductors and overcurrent protection, including considerations in sizing a conductor that is adequate for the calculated load, will not overheat its terminations, and is compatible functionally with the overcurrent device that protects the conductor.

    Upon completion, you should be able to:

    • Describe the different types of overcurrent protection
    • Use the NEC as a resource to size the overcurrent protection device for a branch or feeder circuit
    • Use the NEC as a resource to size a circuit conductor based on load, conditions of use, and terminal limitations

  • Wiring Methods and Raceway Fill (2023)

    2023 NFPA 70® National Electrical Code® (NEC®) Wiring Methods and Raceway Fill

    Learn to select and install the appropriate systems to better protect conductors from physical damage. This course covers how to determine the requirements for routing conductors and securing raceways and provides activities to apply principles learned to common electrical system designs. Receive an overview of Chapter 3 and the standardization of its structure and of the general installation requirements for wiring methods in Article 300, including protection from damage, underground wiring, and ducts for environmental air.  An overview of Article 314 is also provided, which addresses outlet box conductor fill and junction and pull box sizing. This course includes the installation of wiring methods, the determination of permitted uses versus not permitted uses, the calculation of raceway fill, as well as a review of Informative Annex C.

    Upon completion, you should be able to:

    • Identify installation requirements for wiring methods such as raceways and cables
    • Calculate the number of conductors permitted to be installed in raceways
    • Navigate through Chapter 3 based on the standardized numbering system

    This course covers the elements of grounded systems and how to identify equipment grounding and bonding requirements to establish a path for the fault current to flow in the event a ground fault. Learn about grounding principles and key terms related to grounding, system grounding, grounding electrode systems, grounding electrode conductors, and grounded conductors.

    This critical electrical safety course also includes instruction in equipment grounding, including equipment grounding conductors (serving as both grounding and bonding connection), structures not supplied by services, structures supplied by feeders (branch circuits), and structures supplied by a separately derived system.

    2023 NFPA 70® National Electrical Code® (NEC®) Bonding Principles and Practices

    Understanding how to identify essential bonding requirements is the basis for helping to create a safety net for an electrical system. This course covers the purpose of bonding, key terms specific to bonding, and a comparison of key terms between grounding and bonding. After a brief introduction, you will learn about supply-side bonding, bonding at services, and separately derived systems, followed by equipment bonding, sizing of conductors, and the bonding function of equipment grounding conductors. The course also goes over special bonding requirements, telecommunications systems, and bonding to other systems likely to become energized.

    Upon completion, you should be able to:

    • Identify critical components of the bonding system
    • Establish an effective ground-fault current path
    • Size the appropriate bonding conductors based on the type of equipment involved

  • Transformer Protection (2023)

    2023 NFPA 70® National Electrical Code® (NEC®) Transformer Protection

    This course will help you apply the requirements for protecting transformer windings and transformer secondary conductors from overcurrent. Increase your understanding of transformer nameplates, transformer overcurrent protection, and protection of transformer windings from Article 450, and learn how to identify types and functions of overcurrent protective devices. You will also learn about protection of transformer secondary conductors (10-ft rule and 25-ft rule) and overcurrent protection of panelboards, how to compare overload to short circuit/ground fault protection, and how a combination of the supply and the primary and secondary OCPD can provide overcurrent protection of both the equipment and conductors.

    The course covers the sizing of overcurrent protective devices installed to protect the transformer and secondary conductors based on 240.21, including a mix of different transformer secondary conductor rules. This course also provides a brief review of rules for grounding separately derived systems.

    Upon completion, you should be able to:

    • Identify the difference between overcurrent protection of conductors compared to equipment
    • Calculate the overcurrent protection needed based on the full load current values of transformers
    • Determine how to protect conductors on the secondary side of the transformer from overcurrent

    2023 NFPA 70® National Electrical Code® (NEC®) Motors and HVAC Equipment

    Motors are the workhorses of the electrical system, providing the critical function of taking electrical energy and converting it into mechanical energy. In this course, you will learn how to determine ratings and requirements for motors and HVAC systems.

    The course starts with an introduction to motors (Article 430) and to air conditioning and refrigeration equipment (Article 440) before moving on to coverage of motors, feeders, and branch circuit conductors. The interactive format shows you how to determine minimum size conductors for single and multiple motors. Finally, learn about motor controllers and disconnects, HVAC equipment requirements, motor overcurrent protection of conductors and equipment, and the differences between overload and short-circuit/ground-fault protection.

    Upon completion, you should be able to:
