  • Description

Help make sure industrial personnel at risk of short-duration thermal hazards are protected with NFPA 2113.

Workers in a broad range of industrial settings are at risk of exposure to heat stress, fire, arc flash, and additional occupational hazards. NFPA 2113, Standard on Selection, Care, Use, and Maintenance of Flame-Resistant Garments for Protection of Industrial Personnel Against Short-Duration Thermal Exposures from Fire, helps ensure personal protective equipment (PPE) is ready for use and properly chosen and applied to provide adequate protection on the job.

The standard offers general provisions for mitigating health and safety risks resulting from inappropriate use and inadequate maintenance, contamination, or damage to PPE.

The updated NFPA 2113 helps confirm flame-resistant garments and equipment comply with the latest standard.

NFPA 2113 offers the most current information on everything from the purchase and selection of flame-resistant garments based on workplace hazard analysis to specific provisions for wearing, caring for, and maintaining flame-resistant garments.

Revisions reflect up-to-date terminologies and practices, including the addition of a definition for biological terrorism agents in Chapter 3, and consideration of the protection of both the hands and head by flame-resistant garments in Chapter 4.

Access the most relevant information for helping to keep your team protected in areas at risk.

It is critical that life-saving PPE meets the performance requirements specified in NFPA 2112, Standard on Flame-Resistant Clothing for the Protection of Industrial Personnel Against Short-Duration Thermal Exposures from Fire. Stay compliant by ordering your copy of NFPA 2113, 2020 edition, today.

    2015 Edition

Protect industrial workers from thermal exposures with NFPA 2113's up-to-date provisions for PPE selection, use, and maintenance.

Diffuse fuel contributes to rapid growth and spread of the fire, and any potential for short-term thermal exposure conditions requires protecting workers from burns and other risks in exposed areas. Provide life safety through NFPA 2113, Selection, Care, Use, and Maintenance of Flame-Resistant Garments for Protection of Industrial Personnel Against Short-Duration Thermal Exposures from Fire.

Developed primarily for garment end users to reduce the risks caused by incorrect maintenance, contamination, or damage, NFPA 2113 provides minimum requirements for the correct selection, care, use, and maintenance of flame-resistant clothing (FRC) compliant with the NFPA 2112, Standard on Flame-Resistant Garments for Protection of Industrial Personnel Against Flash Fire for use in areas at risk.

Changes in the 2015 NFPA 2113:

    • Revised name, scope, and application provisions for consistency with the Standard's broader concept of fire exposures.
    • New section on responsibility clarifies that both the employer and employee have specific responsibilities for selection, care, use, cleaning, and maintenance of protective garments.
    • New definitions for "risk" and "risk assessment" correlate with the new section in Chapter 4 permitting risk assessments to be used when evaluating where flame-resistant garments should be used.

This widely used Standard is essential for any company or facility that handles or processes flammable gas, flammable or combustible liquids, or combustible dust that may accumulate and/or deflagrate, exposing personnel to short duration thermal exposures from fire. (Softbound, 28 pp., 2015)
