  • Description

Get up to speed with the latest requirements for tools and related equipment used in rescue operations with the new NFPA 1936.

Rescue tools play a vital role in assisting emergency rescue personnel in the extrication of victims from vehicles and other confined spaces. NFPA 1936, Standard on Rescue Tools, provides comprehensive criteria for the design, performance, and testing of rescue tools and their components used by emergency services personnel.

The standard covers requirements for spreader, ram, cutter, lifting bags, and combination powered rescue tools and also specifies provisions for cable assemblies, hose assemblies, and power unit components.

The 2020 edition is revised to account for the most current rescue industry developments, technologies, and procedures.

The latest version of NFPA 1936 includes a title change and content changes to reflect that the standard does not apply only to powered rescue tools.

    Notable amendments and additions include:

    • New requirements for labels to ensure they are permanent, unalterable, and sized appropriately for the intended rescue tool
    • Updated requirements for rescue tools used for cutting to ensure they can cut the more commonly used high-strength materials noted in new Figure
    • Removal of requirements for rescue struts, as existing material relating to rescue struts was deemed incomplete and required more work, and new requirements for struts must be developed

Help make sure you have the tools to overcome the challenges of modern rescue operations.

Give your emergency rescue team the most complete and relevant information by ordering your copy of NFPA 1936, Standard on Rescue Tools, 2020 edition.
