  • Description

Help ensure responder safety with NFPA 1855's requirements for the selection, care, and maintenance of protective ensembles for technical rescue.

Now in its second edition, NFPA 1855: Standard for Selection, Care, and Maintenance of Protective Ensembles for Technical Rescue Incidents addresses the selection, care, and maintenance of protective ensembles for technical rescue -- such as utility technical rescue, and rescue and recovery technical rescue.

The Standard also includes requirements for USAR operation protective ensembles, ensemble elements, clothing, and equipment certified as compliant with NFPA 1951: Standard on Protective Ensembles for Technical Rescue Incidents.

In addition to chapters on the program and selection, NFPA 1855 has comprehensive chapters for ensemble:

    • Inspection
    • Cleaning and decontamination
    • Repair
    • Storage
    • Retirement, disposition, and special incident procedure
    • Verification
    • Test procedures

The 2018 edition removes requirements for CBRN.

The Standard no longer allows use of a center post agitator for washing purposes.

Reduce the safety risks and potential health risks associated with poorly maintained, contaminated, or damaged protective ensembles.

Compliance with NFPA 1855 is essential for personnel safety and performance. (Print, 56 pp., 2018)
