    Train responders on vital respiratory procedures using the 2018 edition of NFPA 1404.

NFPA 1404, Standard for Fire Service Respiratory Protection Training contains minimum requirements for the training component of the Respiratory Protection Program found in the latest edition NFPA 1500, Standard on Fire Department Occupational Safety and Health Program.

    This Standard includes safety procedures for personnel involved in fire suppression, rescue, and related activities in a toxic, contaminated, or oxygen-deficient atmosphere or environment.

    The 2018 edition of NFPA 1404:

    • Aligns with the latest editions of both NFPA 1500 and NFPA 1852, Standard on Selection, Care, and Maintenance of Open-Circuit Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)
    • Includes minor editorial clarifications intended to make requirements easier to understand and apply in practice

    NFPA 1404: Standard for Fire Service Respiratory Protection Training contains minimum requirements for the training component of the Respiratory Protection Program found in NFPA 1500: Standard on Fire Department Occupational Safety and Health Program. Areas addressed include safety procedures for those involved in fire suppression, rescue, and related activities in a toxic, contaminated, or oxygen-deficient atmosphere or environment.

    The 2013 edition includes significant changes:

    • Added language concerning the July 2012 NFPA® safety alert bulletin concerning Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) facepiece lenses
    • An added requirement for Safety Officer to correlate with NFPA 1403: Standard on Live Fire Training Evolutions
    • Clarifications on SCBA training versus live fire training
