NFPA 13: Working Plans, Hydraulic Calculations, and System Acceptance Online Training is a building block of the CFPE Learning Path and CFI-I Learning Path—a series of web-based training that can help you plot a successful journey to advanced certification.
Grasp the critical importance of working plans, hydraulic calculations, and system acceptance through this course.
NFPA 13: Working Plans, Hydraulic Calculations, and System Acceptance —based on the 2016 NFPA 13, Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems—provides you with a greater understanding of the importance of working plans, hydraulic calculations, and the approval requirements for working plans and hydraulic calculations.
You'll learn about the items that must be contained in the working plans, including the piping layout, fittings, sprinklers, valves, hangers, braces, and test connections. These lessons also cover basic hydraulic principles such as remote areas, elevation pressures, equivalent lengths, and friction loss concerns. Lastly, the training provides you with the opportunity to become familiar with system acceptance requirements, including an overview of the testing required for all sprinkler systems.
Upon completion you should be able to:
- Explain the role of the installing contractor.
- Understand and identify the minimum requirements for working plans.
- Describe the three primary system piping configurations.
- Explain the impact system configuration has on system pressure.
- Calculate and understand minimum single sprinkler flow requirements.
- Describe factors affecting friction loss related to the Hazen-Williams formula.
- Explain the concept of the "hydraulically remote area" in design and how to determine it.
- Describe the purpose of the acceptance test.
