    This 3-part online training series provides an essential foundation for understanding the design, installation, and analysis of storage fire sprinkler protection based on the 2016 edition of NFPA 13: Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems.

    Up-to-date with the 2016 edition of NFPA 13, this 3-part interactive online training introduces students to the basic principles for the application, design, and assessment of automatic sprinkler systems protecting miscellaneous and warehouse storage occupancies. The series also covers sprinkler system components and building features as well as specific storage arrangement details critical for consideration that affect design and analysis.

    Related NFPA 13 system requirements are also discussed to successfully achieve a facility's life safety, property protection, mission continuity, heritage preservation, and/or environmental fire safety objectives in occupancies with storage.

    Upon completion you should be able to identify and understand:

    • Various storage arrangements and associated terminology
    • Proper commodity classification including those with mixed plastic components
    • Major changes in NFPA 13 involving commodity classification and options for exposed, expanded plastics
    • Qualification requirements for miscellaneous and low-piled storage
    • Design requirements for standard rack storage
    • Design requirements for shelf, non-standard rack, and floor storage
    • Design requirements for rubber tire and roll paper special storage highlighted in Chapters 18-19
    • Design requirements for special storage such as records with catwalks, high-bay records, baled cotton, retail store display racks, and plastic motor vehicle parts highlighted in Chapter 20
    • The effects on design of CMDA, CMSA, and ESFR sprinkler protection
    • Allowable configurations and protection requirements for idle pallets storage
    • New alternative requirements for ceiling plus in-rack designs
