    2015 Edition

Rely on 2015 NFPA 1003 to be confident airport fire fighters have the skills they need to meet ARFF challenges.

Qualified airport fire fighters must rely on their knowledge and skills when responding to various airport incidents. NFPA 1003, Standard for Airport Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications identifies the minimum job performance requirements needed for Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF), including entrance requirements.

NFPA 1003 organizes information into four areas:

    • Response
    • Fire suppression
    • Rescue
    • Post-emergency operations

Changes in the 2015 edition of NFPA 1003 respond to concerns raised.

A job-task analysis performed by the NFPA® Technical Committee for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications prompted revisions including:

    • The timeframe for response and extinguishment of an aircraft fuel spoil fire is now up to the discretion of the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).
    • JPRs for wheeled extinguishers have been removed because this type of equipment is not normally used by initial fire emergency responders.

This edition also includes updated references to related NFPA codes and standards. Stay up-to-code as you provide for the overall safety and protection of fire fighters as they respond to aircraft fires and other fire emergencies. (Softbound, 17 pp., 2015)
