The CFPE Introduction to the Code Online Training provides a broad picture of the codes before you take the NFPA 13, Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems, NFPA 72® National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code®, NFPA 101®, Life Safety Code® and NFPA 1, Fire Code courses. It gives an introduction to the scope, content, and structure of each of the core codes and standards relevant to the CFPE exam. This will help you determine what you may need to focus on more.
A CFPE relies on a set of codes and standards to complete and approve site plan reviews, classify occupancy and construction type of a building or space, and determine the fire rating of construction components. During the certification exam, you can use these codes and standards to answer questions. This module focuses on how the codes and standards are structured, as well as methods to efficiently find information contained in them. This information can support your ability to pass the certification exam and perform your duties as a CFPE.
This course was designed to help candidates use code books during the CFPE exam and explain the importance of knowing the applicable codes and editions when doing their jobs. Also, you should know how to differentiate a code from a standard, as this is pertinent to the job of a CFPE.
By taking this course you will be better able to relate the information found in NFPA® materials to different areas of emphasis on the exam.
Upon completion you should be able to:
- Explain the scope and purpose of each of the NFPA codes and standards used as the basis for the CFPE exam
- Effectively navigate the relevant codes and standards to answer typical CFPE exam questions
